A SAFER NATION: NOW SAFE WITH TRUMP, BORDER AGENTS FINALLY IGNORE OBAMA’S ORDERS TO ALLOW ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION

Under President Barack Obama, Border Patrol agents were handcuffed in their duties. Now that Donald Trump is president-elect, however, things are starting to change.

According to LifeZette, the head of one of the largest Border Patrol unions said that agents were unlikely to listen to directives form the Obama administration to turn a blind eye to illegal immigration, as many would either look forward to a Trump administration or fear demotion or firing because of their ineffectiveness against illegal immigration.

This comes in spite of the fact that most experts expected a flood of immigrants in the last days of the Obama administration, before the Trump administration could take action at the border.

“You can expect to see CBP pushing back and holding those people,” Brandon Judd, the president of the National Border Patrol Council, said. “They’re going want to make it look like they’re in lockstep with (Trump) … We’re already seeing it now.”

“They have a new boss,” he added. “They know it. They need to endear themselves to him.”

Chris Chmielenski is director of content and activism at NumbersUSA, a nonprofit dedicated to lowering illegal immigration numbers. He says he expects to see a lot of people who were thinking of crossing the border illegally make their attempt during the waning days of the Obama administration.

“At the same time, I think there will be a risk,” Chmielenski said. “Because if they get detected during a Trump administration, they’ll be the first ones to go.”

Chmielenski said he thinks one of the biggest ways Trump can affect illegal immigration is to crack down on dubious, unsubstantiated claims for asylum by unaccompanied minors.

“The Obama administration will probably be pretty lenient on that for the next couple months,” he added.
