It came as quite a slap in the face when liberal California Governor Jerry Brown decided to brush off President Donald Trump’s comment that the Golden State’s “poor forest management” had something to do with the horrific wildfires the state has been seeing recently.
Interestingly enough, Governor Brown is now pushing state lawmakers to “ease restrictions on logging that were enacted under pressure from environmental groups,” according to WND.
In an effort to thin more forests, the proposal would allow private landowners with 300 acres or less to cut larger trees and build temporary roads without obtaining a permit.
Environmentalists, however, want to make California’s logging rules even more restrictive, the Daily Wire said. But the recent deadly fires in both Northern and Southern California have prompted lawmakers to act.
The proposal would also let landowners cut down trees (without a permit, so long as the cause is to reduce the risk of fire) that are as large as 36 inches (in diameter.) Currently, the rule sits at 26 inches.
Landowners would also be able to construct roads as large as 600 feet long, again with no permit.
Currently, landowners in the Golden State can only clear growth and decaying trees/wood.
The Daily Wire reported two weeks ago that President Trump had threatened to hold out on handing over federal money to the state of California if they did not work on their forest management.
“There is no reason for these massive, deadly and costly forest fires in California except that forest management is so poor,” Trump tweeted.
He continued, “Billions of dollars are given each year, with so many lives lost, all because of gross mismanagement of the forests. Remedy now, or no more Fed payments!”
Brown’s office answered Trump’s comments, saying his opinion was “inane” and “uninformed.”
They wrote, “Our focus is on the Californians impacted by these fires and the first responders and firefighters working around the clock to save lives and property — not on the president’s inane, uninformed tweets.”
The Daily wire pointed out that Brown blamed global warming for the fires.
